Dark ART: Tribute to Zdzislaw Beksinski



Zdzisław Beksiński (24 February 1929 - 22 February 2005) was a renowned Polish painter, photographer, and sculptor. Beksiński executed his paintings and drawings either in what he called a 'Baroque' or a 'Gothic' manner, also dark art.


He interested in artistic photography and photomontage, sculpture and painting. He was a very innovative artist, especially for one working in a Communist country. He made his sculptures of plaster, metal and wire.


Baroque and Gothic styles 
The first style is dominated by representation, with the best-known examples coming from his fantastic realism period when he painted disturbing images of a surrealistic, nightmarish environment. The second style is more abstract, being dominated by form, and is typified by Beksinski's later paintings.


Technique 
Beksiński had no formal training as an artist. His paintings were mainly created using oil paint on hardboard panels which he personally prepared, although he also experimented with acrylic paints. He abhorred silence, and always listened to classical music while painting.


Beksinski soon became the leading figure in contemporary Polish art. In the late 1960s, Beksiński entered what he himself called his "fantastic period", which lasted up to the mid-1980s. This is his best-known period, during which he created very disturbing images, showing a surrealistic, post-apocalyptic environment with very detailed scenes of death, decay, landscapes filled with skeletons, deformed figures and deserts.




These paintings were quite detailed, painted with his trademark precision. 
At the time, Beksiński claimed,
"I wish to paint in such a manner as if I were photographing dreams".

Energy attacks



This article will probably invite an onslaught of controversy, so I will place my disclaimer here, at the start. I am providing this to document the differing opinions on energy vampirism attack, not to determine what is fact. As in all things, I tend to believe that there are many truths among different individuals, and do not claim to possess the ability to state the Laws of the issue, but to offer some insight into it.
There are many different interpretations as to what constitutes energy attack, what the symptoms are, and what the other causes of these symptoms might be. I am going to put this together as a listing of the possibilities, and my own opinions on several of the issues. I can only relate certain aspects of this from personal experience, so I will try to cover all the bases as well as I am able from the information I have gathered, in addition to that I have seen firsthand.

I also need to note ahead of time that the term of energy attack, or the more commonly used psi-attack, is a questionable one, as many of the forms of attack are slightly different, and have different symptoms. For instance, the attack that is an emotional-vampirism attack is more likely to occur only under certain circumstances, and produce certain effects, namely depressions, and the more mentally-oriented symptoms. The true psychic attack is likely do to likewise, but often on a purely mental level, effecting more the clarity and stability of the mental processes, than the physical fatigues and pains.

The energy-based draining attack is what can be held accountable for nearly all the attacks that result in the fatigue and pain symptoms, physically, including unexplained unconsciousness, excessive sleeping or tiredness, and even coma. While these are all somewhat separate cases and manifestations, I have put them all together here, for the following reason: Regardless of the form of attack or type, the defense mechanisms that can be employed for one type can often be quite effective against all the others, as well. So, while there may be many different causes, there are some simple solutions that can defend against all of them equally. For this reason, I did not feel the necessity to break it all down any further than this.


Some General Energy Drain Symptoms:
Mental Fatigue
Unexplained Listlessness
Sleeplessness/Insomnia
Excessive sleeping patterns
Unexplained Lack of concentration
Feelings of sudden, unexplained Depression
Physical Fatigue that cannot be explained by other means
Vertigo
Dizziness
Disorientation
Fuzzy state of mind, feeling of drunkenness
Unexplained nausea
Unexplained difficulty in breathing
Throbbing or pain of the forehead
Severe or constant headache/migraine
Loss of appetite
Increase of appetite
Mental Collapse
Physical Incapacitation
Fainting
Prolonged Unconsciousness
In very extreme cases, Coma

Ok, now it needs to be stated that simply experiencing one of these effects does not, in itself, indicate any attack. These can be experienced due to a wide variety of other reasons, and physiological explanations can be found for most seemingly unexplained conditions. It also needs to be noted that an isolated incident (one that occurs only once or twice) is not as likely to be an attack as a chronic (regularly occurring) condition. In all cases where attack might be suspected, and the symptoms are severe, or even troublesome at all, I would suggest you see a doctor, and rule out the possibilities of real physiological problems, before assuming that your ails come from psychic or energy-based attacks.

In the majority of cases I have seen personally, or discussed with others, the symptoms can usually be traced to specific locations or people they have come into contact with. An example of this might be a case in which one particular friend of your leaves you feeling the same way, at several or all the times you are around them. Another example might be that case in which your subsequent trips to a certain location might leave you experiencing one or more of these symptoms. As I said, if you have recurring or troublesome problems like those listed above, it is strongly suggested you see a medical professional before making assumptions as to the cause. By automatically assuming that you are under energy attack, and not getting medical treatment, you might be doing yourself great physical damage, furthering a medical condition, or decreasing your chances for curing the ailment. Please seek the help of a professional.

In a small number of cases of energy attack, the attack occurs from a distance, and it is far more difficult to determine the source, or make a connection at all. Sometimes a predatorial vampire of a high ability level can target their victim from great distance, but I would have to say that this is not a common problem, and will probably not be experienced by most of you reading this. I just wanted to provide some information, for a full view on the subject.

Yet another form of attack, while it is debated as to whether it occurs due to energy vampirism, or to general psychic attack, Is that of induced mental instability. It is not a common event, but it has been reported that in some rare cases, the attack may take the form of actually, psychically induced delusion, confusion, hysteria, hallucination, etc. As I said, it is still unknown as to whether such attacks are actually due to, or in conjunction with an energy draining, or are another form of attack altogether.

Another rare, but very real, possibility is that of astral attack. It has been theorized that such attackers are discarnate spirit forms, or even astrally mobile, living beings who can move through the astral, and attack you on those planes if you have projected yourself there. It is debated as to whether or not such entities can harm you or reach you if you are not present on the plane with them, but I have no proof in either case, so I will not discount the possibility that attacks might occur on the conscious level due to action on the astral.


Defense Techniques
It has been suggested that everyone learn a reliable form of ambient energy usage to maintain a constant flow of vital energy, in case of being drained by another vampire, or for general energy maintenance.

It has been theorized that if the energy vampire can maintain a constant and balanced level of energy from ambient sources, that he/she can eliminate his/her need for direct feeding. (Which is good news for some of the vampiric individuals). Another application of ambient energy use is in the cases where direct feeding is not possible, or is limited, and the vampire can utilize this form of feeding in place of the normal feedings until the circumstances allow. By knowing how to feed off of the energy that is all around us, we can lessen our dependency on other people and appropriate circumstances to ensure our well-being and vitality.

For purposes of defense and shielding, these techniques can be quite valuable as well, providing us with an excess of vital energy with which to build up our defenses, or to project in the case of a draining attack. If we can retain an excess of readily available energy, then we are far more incline to bounce back after attack, or even repel the attempt all-together, if our shielding techniques are adequate. Being that not everyone is capable of shielding themselves well enough to defend a particularly determined or strong attacker, it is wise to know the techniques, so as to self-heal. The actual techniques would take pages and pages to document, so I will retain only a few for you here. The actual premise behind self-defense in these matters, is to use whatever works for You. My own techniques, or those commonly used by others, might not be effective or convenient for you, based on the ritualism, religious undertones, etc. You should, in the end, develop your own personal means of energy pulling, and not rely on the techniques of others for your own well being. I will include a few basic techniques here, to get you started.


Grounding or Centering:
This is described as a means by which one anchors oneself to this plane, and maintains a balanced and focused body and aura. The primary benefit of knowing a good grounding technique is that for many energy attackers, one needs to be in a vulnerable state in order for the attack to work. When one remains centered and grounded, there is no vulnerability, and many attacks can be thwarted in this manner. Many variations exists for grounding, so I will offer a few of my own favorites. It is all about the basic practice of visualization. Now, one can visualize the action in any way that is comfortable and meaningful to themselves. Some people choose to visualize, or form the imagery in their mind, or themselves growing roots like a tree, and attaching themselves firmly to the earth, gaining and sharing the energy of the earth. Others prefer to visualize their aura being drawn in towards the center of their bodies, pulling the energies around them into it, and into themselves. Depending on the religious or spiritual background of the individual, any number of visualizations are possible for this use. The basic premise is to do a regular meditation and focus on the visualization of your own personal way of grounding. In this manner, you keep yourself in a greater balance, and a less vulnerable state. This is a generally beneficial practice for everyone, whether they feel threatened by attack, or not.


Shielding
This is a particularly strong means of protection, but requires much time and energy to perform effectively, for anyone who is not naturally inclined. The concept is to build some form of shield around yourself, in your aura, or through visualization, so as to provide a defined barrier between your vital energies and the outside world. These techniques have been used for quite some time by those who frequently embark on astral projections, and those who practice conjuring of lesser spirits. Again, the actual technique you use and find most effective will be personal to you, and depend on you. I will offer a few examples for reference, but would strongly suggest that in this particular discipline, if anywhere, that a strictly unique form be found for your own regular use, because that unique and personal practice will not only be the most powerful for you, but it will also be far easier to integrate into your natural habits, and eventually to become second nature. It is important that whatever form is chosen, that it be something that you will, eventually, just do without conscious effort, and quite often the techniques of others design do not allow this.

A few of the techniques that were most helpful to me, personally, are the light shielding technique and the wall visualization. In the light shielding, you conjure into your own aura, the energies around you, either from nature (sun, moon, trees, etc) or from a deity source or other divinity symbol. When you have reached a point where you fell as if your aura is filled, you visualize the outer layers of the aura expanding outward and hardening, to form a sort of ethereal cocoon around you, keeping you safe inside of it. The wall is a much easier technique, if you are fond of visualization techniques. Very simply, you channel energy from some source other than your own aura and create the barrier directly. I say, whatever works for you. I know of one person who uses the visualization of being on a small island, with the waters around the island standing high out of the ocean to protect her. Whatever works.


Spirit Familiars
While this might not seem like a very useful means by which to protect oneself, it has been found effective by many when used in conjunction with another form of shielding. The premise is simple, in that anyone who is familiar with the methods of astral movement with the use of spirit guides, or has done any Shamanistic work, is very familiar with the spiritual entities that are on the other planes. Animal familiars are common among those who practice forms of nature magick and meditation. Lesser spirits and elementals are also quite common. Any of these familiar spirits can be used forprotective purposes. The techniques for such are quite complicated, though, so I will not attempt to detail them. If you would like more information, I would be more than happy to talk with you.

Other suggested techniques include cleansing and purification rituals, magickal charms and gris-gris bags, Amulets and talismans, Natural stones and crystal works, Chakra therapy and cleansing, essential oil anointment and candle rites, but these, in my opinion, are simply tools that assist one in accomplishing the grounds for the other techniques of protection.

Ancient Irish alphabet & books: Ogham




This early medieval Irish alphabet has become quite popular in modern Celtic Pagan and Druid circles, mostly as a means of divination, but also for other magical purposes.
As I said, the alphabet is early medieval Irish. It might have been developed when the first Christians came to Ireland and brought the concept of writing with them, but there is no actual proof of that. We have about 400 known inscriptions on stones, most of them names. The functions of these stones is unclear, but most researchers are of the opinion that they mark borders. Other uses of Ogham have been found in manuscripts, and these provide more insight.
Contemporary information on the Ogham is sparse; what has been written about it can be read in high medieval and late medieval manuscripts. These manuscripts are:
The Book of Leinster (12th century)
The Book of Ballymote (1391)
The Book of Lecan (1416)
These manuscripts refer to older sources: The Scholar's Primer, The Values of the Forfeda and the Book of Ogham.
The Scholar's Primer says that Ogham was only to be used by learned men - would they be monks or druids? The act of reading and writing was very elite in the early Middle Ages, so we can be sure that the average Irish farmer wouldn't have been very familiar with Ogham.
The exact origin of Ogham isn't known, but there some interesting myths and stories have been written down.
In one of the manuscripts we find a legend about the origin of the Ogham: it was developed by Fenius Farsaidh, with the help of Goidel Mac Etheoir and Iar Mac Nema and a whole host of scholars. After the destruction of the Biblical Tower of Babel, Fenius went to search for the letters all over the world that together would make the most perfect language. Each letter was named after a linguist who best devoted his time to this task. Note that 'Gaelic' or 'Goidelic' (the name of the Irish language) comes from Goidel Mac Etheoir, one of the scholars that developed Ogham.
Apart from this legend, another link has been made by modern scholars with the Celtic Irish god Ogma, who may be compared to the Celtic Gallic god Ogmios. The names of these gods seem connected to Ogham (which, by the way, means something like 'idea' or 'notion'). The Romans liked to compare foreign gods with their own gods and they dubbed Ogmios the 'Celtic Hercules', or at least an older version of their Hercules. According to these Roman sources, Ogmios was depicted as an old but strong man with one end of a chain through his tongue, the other end being attached to the ears of an eager public. This has been explained as the power of eloquence, or the power of words, in which the strength of this god lies. There is no direct connection between Ogham and Ogma/Ogmios, but could there be a divine element to the development of Ogham, keeping this part of mythology in mind?

Purpose and meaning
The ancient Celts were mostly an illiterate people. It was the Roman world, and Christianity after that, that brought the written word to those parts in Europe that apparently had no use for it before. This is also the reason why we use the letters we have today instead of systems like the Ogham. Our letters are derived from Roman scripture, and more directly from the letters in medieval manuscripts (especially those made under Charlemagne). To be honest, Ogham isn't a very practical script - so what was it used for?
Based on where the Ogham has been found, it appears that this alphabet had a few specific uses. First of all, as has already been noted above, Ogham has been found on standing stones, or monoliths. They are said to mark borders, and by doing that they also marked someone's property. This might also be the reason why mostly names and short phrases ('of the clan of x', etc.) are found on these stones, instead of actual texts. There could also be some cryptic message in all this, since not many people were actually able to read Ogham, even in that time - but as far as I know this has been lost.
Ogham that has been found in manuscripts seems to have a different function. It has mostly the purpose of learning, remembering and making connections.
But there are also certain stories in which the Ogham has a more magical purpose. From these old sagas we learn that Ogham was not only written down on stone, but also on wood. This is a material that doesn't last, so there is no physical evidence, but it seems plausible that this was actually done in reality. There is even one instance where Ogham is written on metal. In the Book of Leinster we find an medieval legend in which an Ogham text on an iron ring around a stone says: 'Whoever comes to this meadow, if he is armed, he is forbidden to leave this meadow without requesting single combat.' The only thing stopping someone from simply leaving the meadow without a fight is the text itself - therefore it must hold some magical power. The semi-divine hero Cú Chulainn has another solution; he throws the stone away, with ring and all. In another instance, Cu Chulainn gives a small wooden spear to the king of Alba (Scotland) inscribed with Ogham - it says that the king is allowed to take Cú Chulainn's seat at the court of Ulster.
There is slight evidence of the use of Ogham as divination in Irish myth, and this is what Ogham is used for today by many Celtic Pagans and Druids. In an Irish legend, a druid writes down Ogham letters on yew sticks and then uses them for divination, but it gives no further details.  Nowadays, what is most popular is to make a branch for every letter and then use this set of branches in several ways. This can be done by blindly drawing one or several sticks and then interpret the meaning of the letter(s). Another way is to throw the branches on 'Finn's Window' (based on the round diagram that can be seen on the parchment page from the Book of Ballymote here depicted) and draw a meaning from how the branches fall.

The 'Tree Alphabet'
So what about the name 'tree alphabet'? Actually, the Ogham was also a bird alphabet, colour alphabet, river alphabet, etc. It appears that there were many systems that were used for remembering the letters of the Ogham alphabet. Of all these systems (several hundreds, they say), the tree system has been most popular since early times. So, every letter got a tree attached to it, and by memorizing the trees, one was able to memorize the letters. A mnemonic aid of some sorts. Then again, we can't rule out a deeper, perhaps even magical, meaning for using such a system.
The meaning of the letters connected to the trees was further developed in the uses of kennings, or phrases, known as the Bríatharogham. Three of these lists are known:
Bríatharogham Morainn Mac Moín (who was a human judge)
Bríatharogham Mac Oengus (god)
Bríatharogham Cú Chulainn (semi-divine hero, we've already noted him in connection to the Ogham)

The book of Leinster 

The Book of Leinster (Irish Lebor Laignech), is a medieval Irish manuscript compiled ca. 1160 and now kept in Trinity College, Dublin, under the shelfmark MS H 2.18 (cat. 1339). It was formerly known as the Lebor na Nuachongbála "Book of Nuachongbáil", a monastic site known today as Oughaval. Some fragments of the book, such as the Martyrology of Tallaght, are now in the collection of University College, Dublin
Nothing certain is known of the manuscript's whereabouts in the next century or so after its completion, but in the 14th century, it came to light at Oughaval. It may have been kept in the vicarage in the intervening years. The Book of Leinster owes its present name to John O'Donovan (d. 1861), who coined it on account of the strong associations of its textual contents with the province of Leinster, and to Robert Atkinson, who adopted it when he published the lithographic facsimile edition.
However, it is now commonly accepted that the manuscript was originally known as the Lebor na Nuachongbála, that is the "Book of Noghoval", now Oughaval (Co. Laois), near Stradbally. This was established by R.I. Best, who observed that several short passages from the Book of Leinster are cited in an early 17th-century manuscript written by Sir James Ware (d. 1666), found today under the shelfmark London, British Library, Add. MS 4821. These extracts are attributed to the "Book of Noghoval" and were written at a time when Ware stayed at Ballina (Ballyna, Co. Kildare), enjoying the hospitality of Rory O'Moore[disambiguation needed]. His family, the O'Moores (Ó Mhorda), had been lords of Noghoval since the early 15th century if not earlier, and it was probably with their help that he obtained access to the manuscript. The case for identification with the manuscript now known as the Book of Leinster is suggested by the connection of Rory's family to the Uí Chrimthainn, coarbs of Terryglass: his grandfather had a mortgage on Clonenagh, the home of Uí Chrimthainn. Best's suggestion is corroborated by evidence from Dublin, Royal Irish Academy MS B. iv. 2, also of the early 17th century. As Rudolf Thurneysen noted, the scribe copied several texts from the Book of Leinster, identifying his source as the "Leabhar na h-Uachongbála", presumably for Leabhar na Nuachongbála ("Book of Noughaval"). Third, in the 14th century, the Book of Leinster was located at Stradbally (Co. Laois), the place of a monastery known originally as Nuachongbáil "of the new settlement" (Noughaval) and later as Oughaval.

The Book of Ballymote 


The Book of Ballymote (Leabhar Bhaile an Mhóta, RIA MS 23 P 12, 275 foll.), named for the parish of Ballymote, County Sligo, was written in 1390 or 1391. It was produced by the scribes Solam Ó Droma, Robertus Mac Sithigh and Magnus Ó Duibhgennain, on commission by Tonnaltagh McDonagh, in the possession of whose clan the manuscript remained until 1522, when it was purchased by Aed Óg O'Donnell, prince of Tír Conaill, for 140 milch cows. In 1620 it was given to Trinity College, Dublin, but was subsequently stolen from the library, and only returned to the Royal Irish Academy upon its foundation in 1785 by Chevalier O'Gorman who allegedly purchased it from a millwright's widow in Drogheda for 20 pounds. The first page of the work contains a drawing of Noah's Ark. The first written page is lost, and the second page describes the ages of the world.

The Book of Lecan

The (Great) Book of Lecan (Irish: Leabhar (Mór) Leacain) (RIA, MS 23 P 2) is a medieval Irish manuscript written between 1397 and 1418. It is in the possession of the Royal Irish Academy. Leabhar Mór Leacain is written in Middle Irish and was created by Ádhamh Ó Cuirnín for Giolla Íosa Mór Mac Fhirbhisigh. The material within was transcribed from the Book of Leinster, latter copies of the Book of Invasions, the dinsenchas, the banshenchas and the Book of Rights. At one stage it was owned by James Ussher. James II of England then deposited it at the Irish College, Paris. In 1787, the Chevalier O'Reilly returned it to Ireland; where it was at one stage in the possession of Charles Vallancey. He passed it on to the Royal Irish Academy. There were originally 30 folios; the first nine were apparently lost in 1724. Unfortunately these contained a large section devoted to the pedigrees and history of the Norse and Norse-Gaelic families of Ireland, which are nowhere else preserved. The pages are unfortunately covered in a greasy substance which makes them transparent and reduces their legibility.

Elody Brown's missions is a mysterious adventure story about a special girl with special powers on a special mission across the world and time. (Will be launch in 2012)

ELODY BROWN© is the main character of the mysterious upcoming MISSION book series for young adults and teenagers due in fall-winter 2012-2013. 
 Elody Brown is a very special girl and strange things are happening around her. At birth, she was gifted with special powers that enables her to do incredible things. TRIBUTE TO MICHAEL ANDERSON
"ODYSSEY"





"The moon is up over Tibet. Snow crunches under my feet as I wait for the sunrise to ignite the fluted ramparts of the Himalaya. I can hear the far off clanging of Yak bells and the whistle of the herders beginning their day. 

I am alone, surrounded in the shadows of the greatest mountains on earth. I feel enriched here witnessing this spectacle. Lewis Mumford once said, “Raw experience is empty, for it is not what one does, but what one realizes that keeps existence from being vain and trivial. It is the artist who realizes human experience, who takes the raw lump of ore we find in nature, smelts it, refines it, and stamps it into coins that can pass from hand to hand and make every man who touches them the richer.” 

I take photographs to define my experiences, to encapsulate these moments and share the earth’s most extraordinary places with my friends and all of the aspiring vagabonds and wilderness trekkers that hope to travel one day. If you’ve found my website and are reading this, you’re probably a lot like me. You find it difficult to describe your fascination with the wonders of the earth and the cultures most connected to it. Somehow, these feelings have defined you and how you live your life. Here within these pages, you will see the places that existed in my own childhood dreams. 

I realize these travel dreams were not mine alone. I have friends that have dreamed of climbing and trekking in the Himalaya since the day we all climbed the tallest tree in the neighborhood, tied an American flag to the top and posed like Tenzing Norgay for the ‘summit’ photograph. I realize that most of those friends will never make their journey there. Life gets in the way sometimes. But I have tried to share the majesty, intimacy and timelessness of these places in my photographs in a way I hope you can all relate to. I’ve tried to capture the reality of my childhood imaginations and share them with you. I realize that despite having grown up with these dreams, nobody needs to go on a trip like this. But as we work through the daily routine of life at home, sometimes it helps to know that we could go. That it’s all really there. Better yet, I hope my photographs inspire a few of you to actually follow your dreams and take your journey. I want to remind everyone that ordinary working people can visit remote places like this. They do it all the time. These are not expensive or difficult places to explore if you travel independently and stay with the locals. And of course, there are endless experiences to be had in the wilderness areas of our own backyard. 

But you can’t begin a journey if you don’t step out. There is nothing mysterious about a rucksack. All you need are a couple changes of clothes, some hard earned time off and less money than you think. Get out there and watch the ravens fly through the dazzling glow of a remote slot canyon, watch the northern lights dance over the snows of Denali, or take an extended journey and join the Tibetan pilgrims spinning prayer wheels outside a cliffside monastery. Fish for Pirrhana in the Amazon, watch autumn leaves fall in a gentle snowstorm in Patagonia, or marvel at a palm tree swaying dark against a billion stars while camping on a moonless night in the middle of the South Pacific. It’s all there. And the earth needs people who travel this way, who earn their time with its treasures, and promote its conservation. Time is the most precious commodity we actually own."

Michael Anderson is an award winning travel and landscape photographer who lives in Colorado with his wife, Cheri. The following is an excerpt from an online interview he gave in the summer of 2008: 
Extract:

"I was a backcountry ranger for several years in Yosemite National Park where I met Galen Rowell and spent the week of my 21st birthday at a remote ski cabin learning from Galen at one of his first workshops. He was a great story teller who lived through some extraordinary adventures and he lit a fire in my imagination that continues to this day. On the night of my birthday, Galen took me aside and we talked about how individual vision, seeing the unexpected, and an artist’s passion can combine to create great photographs, but also shape our view of the world and our goals in life. I wrote his words down on a piece of paper I keep in my copy of his famous book ‘Mountain Light’ which he signed that week. Since then, I’ve worked hard to find my own voice and I’ve incorporated a lot of his philosophy into my work. 

Then I started exploring. I worked hard all year so I could spend my summers backpacking and climbing in the Sierra. I walked over 1,000 miles one summer and spent a lot of time off the trail. I saw amazing things, was often solo and found that I had a hard time sharing the intimacy of my adventures with people that weren’t there. But my stories were always more effective if I had a few good photos. My passion for photography was growing. I sought to capture the essence of what moved ME on those trips, and in doing so I also learned how to capture scenes in a way that moved OTHERS who were not there. 

In 1989, I took my first trip to Mexico carrying a tent and a backpack and took buses or hitched rides with other travelers all the way down to Guatemala. It was a rough and tumble time in Central America back then. I ate at street vendors, bought groceries at the local tiendas, camped on the beach, slung up my hammock and was surprised at how cheap and easy it was to get around. I spent about $10 a day on that trip. I had just discovered the freedom of vagabonding. The experience changed my life and I continue to travel in this way. 

When I begin a trip, I have only a vague idea of the experiences and places I will see along the way. I make my route up as I go, allowing me to drift with the flow of the environment and the weather, always open to unexpected invitations for adventure. True to Rolf Pott’s words, I try and gather my time off into one big trip a year so I can immerse myself in the swirl of beautiful, strange, colorful and occasionally chaotic environment of international travel. I camp or stay with locals and take local transportation whenever I can. I never know what will happen or how the trip will end. My ultimate goals with photography are much the same. I have a vague idea of where I want to go, but I am letting the journey take me there. It’s going to be an adventure, and I can’t wait to see what’s around the next corner."
